A Newfoundland standing on its hind legs can look you in the eye. Some are taller than their owners. If you’re wondering how big this dog gets, the answer is very big. How big do Newfoundland dogs get? Males reach 27–29 inches tall and 130-150 pounds. Females stand 25–27 inches and weigh 100-120 pounds. The…
Newfoundland puppies gain weight at a pace that’s hard to believe. They can go from 10 pounds to 80 pounds in six months. I’ve seen photos where owners can’t tell it’s the same dog. If you’re wondering how big your Newfoundland dog will get, this weight chart and growth chart gives you the answer. How…
The hardest part about owning a gentle giant is knowing they won’t be around as long as smaller dogs. A Chihuahua might live 15–18 years. A Newfoundland dog averages 8 to 10 years. That’s not a lot of time. But the years you get are full ones. These large dogs pack more love and loyalty…
A friend’s Vizsla turned 14 last month. Still running the beach every morning, still the first one up the stairs, still begging for her breakfast like she’s starving. That’s the upside of this breed – they often age well and stay active long into their senior years. The Vizsla lifespan averages 12–15 years. The Vizsla…
Vizslas burn calories like a race car burns fuel. My cousin’s Vizsla eats the same amount as her 100-pound Lab, even though she only weighs 55 pounds. That’s the Vizsla metabolism in action – lean bodies that need high-quality fuel to stay athletic and healthy. Finding the best dog food for Vizsla matters more than…
I once watched a Staffy and an American Pitbull Terrier meet at a dog park. Same blocky head. Same muscular build. Same loving eyes. To most people, they looked like the same dog. They aren’t. These two breeds – the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier – share ancestors but grew up…
I once watched a Havanese at a coffee shop greet every single person who walked in. Tail wagging, soft eyes, zero fear. The owner said he does this everywhere. That’s the Havanese personality in one scene. They’re social, affectionate, and adaptable. But they also come with grooming demands, separation anxiety, and a few health issues…
The first time I saw a Maltese with a full show coat, I thought it was wearing a tiny wedding dress. Floor-length silky white hair, perfectly parted down the spine. Beautiful to look at. A nightmare to maintain. Most maltese owners don’t go that route. A full-length maltese’s coat is high-maintenance. It needs daily brushing,…
If you’ve ever lived with a Maltese, you probably know they may be tiny, but they certainly don’t act like it, especially when food is involved! I remember how easy it can be to give in when those little eyes follow you around the kitchen, hoping for another bite. But with a small breed like…
The first time I met a Catahoula, I honestly didn’t know what I was looking at. Those intense eyes, the athletic build, and that quiet-but-alert presence felt very different from most dogs I’d been around. It wasn’t overly friendly like a Lab, but it wasn’t aggressive either, it felt purposeful. That curiosity pushed me to…
