The first time I saw a Pitbull Dachshund mix, I thought someone had photoshopped a Pitbull head onto a Dachshund body. Short legs. Broad chest. Muscular build on a low-rider frame. It’s one of the most unusual-looking mixes out there. This crossbreed goes by several names: Pitweenie, Dox-Bull, Doxie-Pit, Pitshund, or simply Pitbull Weiner Dog…
The internet says Pitbulls have a bite force of 235 PSI. Or 300 PSI. Or 1,800 PSI. The numbers change depending on who’s writing and what point they’re trying to make. Here’s the truth: measuring bite force in dogs is complicated. Most numbers circulating online are estimates, not lab measurements. And the pitbull bite isn’t…
My friend wanted a dog for years. She’s allergic to dogs. Sneezing, itchy eyes, the full package. She decided to get a Maltese after reading that they’re hypoallergenic. Three years later, zero reactions. Not one. But no dog is 100% hypoallergenic. That word gets thrown around a lot. What it means is that certain dogs…
The first time I got a close look at Newfoundland dogs at a show, I was surprised. I expected all black. Instead, I saw browns, grays, and striking black-and-white patterns walking the ring. Most people picture this breed as a solid black dog. But there are several recognized coat color options. Each newf looks different….
A Newfoundland puppy can eat more than most adult dogs by the time it’s four months old. I watched one pup inhale a full bowl of kibble in under ninety seconds. That’s the reality of feeding a giant breed. This gentle giant needs the right dog food for Newfoundland dogs to stay healthy. Getting portion…
I’ve met owners of both gentle giants who swear theirs is the best large dog. The Berner people talk about the tri-colored coat and calm indoor presence. The Newf people talk about the swimming and patience with kids. These two breeds are both massive. Both drool. Both shed enough fur to knit a second dog….
Naming a 150-pound big dog “Tiny” is funny for exactly one day. After that, you’re stuck yelling “Tiny, come!” at the park for the next decade. Congratulations on your new Newfoundland dog! If you want to name your new dog something that fits this gentle giant breed, you’re in the right place. Finding the right…
The short answer: yes. A lot. If you’re thinking about getting a Newfoundland and you like wearing black clothing, prepare to give that up. These gentle giants – often called the “nanny dog” – have a thick double coat that drops fur year-round. Unlike other breeds that shed seasonally, every newfie sheds constantly with two…
Feeding our dogs has always been more than just filling a bowl-it’s about their long-term health, energy, digestion, and happiness. With so many brands claiming to be “premium,” two that often come up are Freshpet and Blue Buffalo. While both are well-known, their philosophies and how they approach nutrition are very different. I’ve spent years…
A few years ago, I found myself staring at an open suitcase on the floor while my dog sat right in the middle of it like he was part of the packing list. I had booked my flight, sorted my documents, and felt pretty organized until I realized I had no real clarity on how…
